Shy Little Girl
Wandering through a land of dreams
She lives amongst the trees.
Noticing the tiniest breeze—
—the silence of the leaves.
In the lake, its slightest swirl
She sees the whole wide world.
And in the night, her arms she curls
Tiny little girl.
Shy little girl, is she
With thoughts as big as a galaxy.
Prancing through the forest, she flees
and hides as soon as a stranger is seen.
"How do we forgive ourselves for all of the things we did not become?"
"You see, I want a lot.
Perhaps I want everything
the darkness that comes with every infinite fall
and the shivering blaze of every step up.
So many live on and want nothing
And are raised to the rank of prince
By the slippery ease of their light judgments
But what you love to see are faces
that do work and feel thirst.
You love most of all those who need you
as they need a crowbar or a hoe.
You have not grown old, and it is not too late
To dive into your increasing depths
where life calmly gives out its own secret."
Tonight in Ferguson, Mo. Even CNN is calling out police brutality.
We are watching history unfold. Do not stand down. Spread the word.
No justice, no peace.
